Re-Mediation

Revitalizing Brownfield

Type - Apiary

Location - Los Angeles, California

Semester - Spring 2017 - Fall 2017

Statement

North Atwater Park, Los Angeles, embodies a two-fold aftermath of industrial development: destruction of the landscape and its associated ecological systems. Phytoremediation offers an opportunity to revitalize the site while the introduction of an apiary helps the ecosystem thrive.

An array of columns run the length of North Atwater Park, and vertically organize generic bee hives, reducing building footprint, allowing passive flow through a porous building, and weaving visitors along alternate paths that expose them, and the bees to the variety of environments the park presents.
